The
Galligalaxy is a picture database about the Gallus gallus
or chicken. This domesticated member of the poultry family,
alongside ducks, geese and pigeons, pheasants, turkeys and
others, is the most popular bird ever. As Rooster, Hen or
Chick the Gallus constitutes indeed a commercially important
source of meat and eggs. No wonder therefore that industrialization
took over from domestication and that the chicken disappeared
from our daily life into secluded barracks. Ever more people
will only know him from the supermarket stores, plucked
and cleaned, ready for consumption.
The
Gallinophiles - or Chickenfriends - united in the club of
the 'Friends of Chanticleer and Mother Chicken', asked the
Belgium based Museum of Mother Chicken to produce this pictorial
account of their beloved gallinaceans. Graciously housed
by Wallonia, already the home of the Cock Hardi, the red
rooster on a yellow field which you see to the left of this
text, over ten thousand chickens run through the Galligallaxy
and testify of their colourful and varied past and present.
